EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION

At the ECIC, KG students follow a bilingual learning environment ensuring 50% of subjects in English and 50% in French. Enabling students to develop language skills in both English and French. KG curriculum emphasizes developing students skills through purposeful play giving them the opportunity to discover, apply and acquire new life skills that will meet their social, physical, intellectual, and cultural needs. “Children at play are highly motivated and capable of intense concentration”. Alberta Kindergarten Statement, 2008. Creativity is one of the most important skills to develop at the KG level in order to enable students to develop their critical thinking and learning abilities. The Alberta Curriculum emphasizes the fact that children come from different backgrounds and with a variety of experiences, therefore, it supports each child’s prior knowledge, skills, attitudes, learning pace, personal traits, interests and goals, and preferred learning styles.

ECIC facilities provide different learning environments for science, language, art, and physical activities.

The Kindergarten Program Statement provides learner expectations in seven learning areas:

  • Early Literacy
  • Early Numeracy
  • Citizenship and Identity
  • Environment and Community Awareness
  • Personal and Social Responsibility
  • Physical Skills and Well-being
  • Creative Expression
